According to the epic Mahabharata, Chikhaladara – a distortion of Keechakadara marks the place where Bheema after a Herculean tussle with the evil Keechaka killed him and threw him into the valley. However this mythological ring is not Chikhaladara’s sole claim to fame. The Chikhaladara Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Amravati district of
Vidarbha region. The best time to visit the Chikhaladara Wildlife Sanctuary is between
the months of October and June. The rainy season is not conducive for a trip.

Another added attraction of the Chikhaladara Wildlife Sanctuary is the Dhakana-Kolkaz National Park which is in its close vicinity. By virtue of the implementation of Melghat Tiger Project, it is home to about 82 tigers. A visit to the sanctuary therefore enables you to witness these regal tigers as well.
