The Kedarnath Sanctuary in Uttaranchal is an exotic sanctuary dotted with an abundance of flora and fauna. Sprawling over an area of 967 sq km, the sanctuary was established in the year 1972 in Chamoli district. The Kedarnath Sanctuary in Uttaranchal is encircled by snow-clad mountains of the great Himalayan mountain range, and a plethora of rivers, glaciers, valleys and forests. At this picturesque sanctuary you can witness a variety of wildlife such as the Snow Leopard, Snow Cock, Musk Spotted Deer, Tahr, Leopard, Serow and several species of birds. In between the years 1978 and 1980, a project funded by WWF was undertaken in this sanctuary, on the research of Musk deer.
