Introduction to Sagareshwar Sanctuary
Sagareshwar Sanctuary is one of the main tourist attractions in Maharashtra. The sanctuary is the ideal place for the wild animals to enjoy their life in natural habitat. The sanctuary is under khanapur, Walva and Palus Tehsils of Sangli district of India.
This man made sanctuary is homeland for varieties of floras and faunas. The forest experience dry deciduous forest. The southern thorn is another popular vegetation of the sanctuary. As the forest is an artificial sanctuary so plants like Neem, Tamarind, Kashid, Subabool, Gulmohor, Anjan, Nilgiri, Pangar, Chilar, Sisoo, Agrave, Khair, Shiras, Char, Khair, Bahava, Gulmolhar and Dhavada. The hilly slopes are covered with hill grass.
Various wild animals, birds, reptiles have made this place as their home ground. Animals like Sambhar, Blackbucks, Wildboar, Barking Deer, Chital, Fox, hyena and Porcupine roam freely and they are allowed to regenerate so that ecological balance is maintained. Apart from wild animals, a good number of reptiles, amphibians also have their breeding ground in this man made forest. Python is one of the main snakes found and in this area.
The most picturesque view of the river Krishna from the hill top is the one of the main attractions of the tourists.
