Wildlife Sanctuaries in West India

Nothing is more interesting to a wildlife enthusiast than the roar of tigers and the chirping of birds. The wonderful wildlife sanctuaries in West India offer just that - a plethora of jungle sounds and creatures to their visitors.

Teeming with natural beauty, India's western region supports a wide variety of flora and fauna and is home to some of the most spectacular wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. Among the many animals here are Asiatic Lions, Blackbucks, Indian Wild Ass, Ridley Turtles, Eels, Wolves and Desert Cats.
Few of the most prominent Wildlife sanctuaries in West India are Marine Wildlife Sanctuary and Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary.

Marine Wildlife Sanctuary:
Located in Pirotan Island, it is India's first Marine National Park. Marine Wildlife Sanctuary (Pirotan) was declared a National Park in 1982. The park is celebrated for its wealth of amphibians and water animals such as Ridley Turtles, Shrimps, Sponges, Eels, Green Sea Urchin and Dolphins among others.

Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary:
Home to the endangered Asiatic Wild Ass and Houbara Bustard, it is also the habitat of Khur (Indian wild ass), Wolf and Caracal. Located in Gujarat, this wildlife sanctuary in West India is also known as the Wild Ass Sanctuary.

Some of the other wild animals one may observe are Desert Fox, Jackal, Nilgai, Blackbucks and Desert Cat. The sanctuary also boasts of about 350 species of birds. Little Rann of Kutch Sanctuary also attracts a large number of migratory birds.

Other notable wildlife sanctuaries in West India are the Bor Wildlife Sanctuary, Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary and Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary.
