About Yawal Sanctuary :
Considered as the treasure trove of nature, Yawal Sanctuary boasts a wide collection of flora and fauna. Drained by the Sukki River Dam which remains filled for the entire year, Yawal Sanctuary is a veritable heaven for nature lovers. This dam, 615 meters in length and 18.74 meters in breadth is deep enough to enclose sufficient water reserve for summer months.
Blue tiger Butterflies can be seen in Nirgudi Plants, while water frogs are plentiful inside water. A minor Irrigation project is supposed to be launched soon because the Government has already decided on this project. The population of fauna consists mainly of flying squirrel, pangolin, ratel, tiger, leopard, sambar, barking deer, chital, mouse deer, and wild dogs. Threatened by poachers, this region was declared as a Sanctuary by Maharashtra Government.
